Who has the highest internet speed in SA?

The fastest internet speeds are typically found in areas with access to nbn® fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) and business-grade fibre.

Here are the fastest internet options in South Australia:

    • nbn® 1000 (gigabit) plans. Available in areas with FTTP and some HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connections. Real-world speeds can vary but often range between 600–900 Mbps during peak times.
    • Business fibre connections, which can offer gigabit or even multi-gigabit speeds. These are more expensive and primarily used by businesses needing ultra-fast and reliable internet.

What’s the difference between FTTP, FTTN,and HFC?

nbn® connections vary based on location. In South Australia, the three main types you’ll find are:

    • FTTP (fibre to the premises) – Fastest & most reliable (direct fibre to your home).
    • FTTN (fibre to the node) – Fibre runs to a street node, with copper completing the connection.
    • HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial) – Uses existing cable TV networks for high-speed nbn®.

Can I use my own modem or router?

Yes! You can use a compatible modem/router with your Swoop nbn® plan. If you’re unsure, our team can help check compatibility.

Can I upgrade my nbn® plan anytime?

Do I need a landline to get nbn®?

No, you don’t need a separate phone line to access the nbn®. Unlike dial-up internet, which relied on copper phone lines, modern nbn® technologies use fibre or a mix of fibre and copper.

However, some older nbn® connection types still use the existing phone socket for internet access:

    • Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
    • Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
    • Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)

If your home is connected via these technologies, your internet runs through the same copper wiring as a traditional landline, but you can still use the phone and internet at the same time.

Newer technologies like Fibre to the Premises, Fixed Wireless, and Satellite do not require a phone line at all.

    Does South Australia have FTTP?

South Australia has many FTTP-ready areas, including Greater Adelaide and regional SA.

If you’re in an FTTP-enabled area but haven’t connected to FTTP yet, you may be eligible for a free upgrade by selecting a high-speed plan.

Is nbn® available in rural and remote South Australia?

Yes! The nbn® network covers most of SA, including rural towns and remote areas. If your area hasn’t been connected yet, you can check out our nbn® Fixed Wireless plans.
