Generic – NBN Fibre to the Node/Building Setup

Modem Setup with Swoop
In most cases, your modem should automatically get configured with Swoop, because to make it easier for our customers we support both IPoE (Dynamic) and Flexible PPPoE connection for NBN services. As long as your modem is in either of those modes, it should just work (regardless of PPPoE username and password stored in your modem).

However, if automatic setup didn’t not work you, please follow below modem setup instructions.

1. Locate your Phone Socket

There are 2 types of Phone socket

  • Normal Phone Socket
  • Older Style Phone socket (You may need a modular adaptor, if it’s not present in your home)

Please note, FTTN/B does not require any filter

2. Connecting your modem

Connect your VDSL 2 Compatible modem to the phone socket, using a standard phone cable. Ensure your modem is powered on.

One end of the phone cable goes to the telephone socket on the wall and other end goes to the DSL port (usually grey) of the modem. Please see the picture below for reference.

It is recommended to use standard 1-meter-long cable for the connection between modem and socket.

3. Ensure you have “Sync”

Check it via DSL light on modem. DSL light needs to be solid green. If the DSL light is not coming up as solid white, please contact Swoop on 1300 66 55 75 for assistance.

Please note, color of the DSL light may vary modem to modem, refer to your modem user manual for more information.

4. Connect your Device

You can use any device for modem setup such as Laptop, tablet etc. Just ensure you are connected to your modem via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable. Usually modem default Wi-Fi password is located on the modem sticker.

5. Open Modem Setup Page and Login

Open any browser (Chrome, Edge or Safari) on the you connected with your modem and type your modem default IP and press enter. Modem default IP depends on make and model of the device.  You can find the default IP on the modem sticker or by doing a quick google search.

Example, above IP address may not be correct

Once you are on a login screen, sign in using your modem username/password.

Login details are usually located on the modem stickers in most cases, or you can also do google search to find the default credentials. Please note, if you have set a custom password, you need to enter that. If you do not remember it, you can factory reset the modem and then login via default credentials.

Just an example, your login screen may look different

6. Setting up Connection

Now to setup the modem, go to the internet settings of your modem (location may vary depending on the modem brand) and ensure you are setting up VDSL 2 Connection (see your modem setup guide for detail)

Follow the steps as per your preferred connection type:

IPoE (Dynamic) Connection

Select Internet Connection Type as “Dynamic IP or IPoE”

click Save/Apply
PPPoE Connection
