An AVC ID, or Access Virtual Circuit Identifier, is a unique 15-character code assigned to every active nbn® broadband connection. This identifier is used by NBN Co and service providers to secure, manage and troubleshoot your connection more efficiently.

All nbn® connections have their own AVC ID, including different ones for your home and business addresses. If you move or switch providers, your new connection will be assigned a different AVC ID, ensuring each connection remains distinct.
What does an AVC ID look like?
An AVC ID starts with “AVC” followed by 12 digits, and will look something like this: AVC000123456789.
Why is an AVC ID important?
Starting April 2025, if you’re switching nbn® providers, your new provider will ask for your AVC ID to streamline the process. This ensures your connection details are transferred accurately, avoiding disruptions.
NBN Co’s current process means that anyone can apply for a new connection using any address, which automatically triggers a transfer of account and cancels the existing connection. With an AVC ID, only the customer with the number will be able to apply for a new connection.
AVC IDs will also be useful for troubleshooting. If there’s an issue with your internet, Swoop and NBN Co can use this code to identify and resolve problems with your connection from their end.
In properties with multiple nbn® connections, such as apartment complexes or office buildings, AVC IDs help differentiate the different connections.
Where can I find my AVC ID?
From 18 January 2025, nbn® service providers are required to display the AVC ID on customer invoices, within online portals or through customer service channels. This means you will easily be able to access your AVC ID when needed.
- Your account portal: Check your account management section.
- Your invoice: Look for it listed alongside your nbn® connection details.
- Customer service: Get in touch with Swoop and ask for the information.
If you’re switching to Swoop and can’t find your AVC ID, contact your current provider for assistance.
How are AVC IDs used?
AVC IDs will be useful for:
- Switching providers: Ensuring a smooth transition when changing nbn® services.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and fixing internet service issues.
- Managing multiple connections: Differentiating between separate nbn® connections in multi-dwelling units or offices.
You don’t need your AVC ID to upgrade to a higher speed plan with us.
